The San Teodoro lagoon, recently acquired by the municipality of San Teodoro and included on the list of Special Areas of Conservation of Sites of Community Importance (S.I.C.), is a precious ecosystem that is home to a great biological heritage of flora and fauna, a veritable paradise for birdwatchers. Its environment is home to sea bass, gilthead bream and pipi, as well as flamingos, cormorants, herons, coots, kingfishers, kestrels, marsh harriers and many other species of marine and marsh fauna.

The lagoon can be visited along a number of routes, either from the north or south. Recently, wooden fences have been installed to demarcate additional routes for observing endemic species on the western part of La Cinta beach, from where the lagoon can be accessed. The fence has a dual function: it indicates the route and demarcates the prohibited areas affected by specific redevelopment projects involving the planting of species characteristic of the site, thanks also to the scientific support of the Tavolara-Punta Coda Cavallo marine protected area.

The site is immersed in the greenery of the Mediterranean scrubland and is best visited at a leisurely pace, trying to capture the details of the natural heritage and the avifauna present.

The lagoon, and in particular the Pischéra area, often becomes an attractive natural stage for various sporting and natural events, as well as musical and artistic ones.

Every 25 April, the Currendi in Pischéra - Flamingo Trophy and Alberto Ventroni Memorial, organised by the local athletics association, takes place.

And it's always here that events such as the screenings of the Tavolara Film Festival - A Night in Italy (mid-July) or the concert by Paolo Fresu and other musicians as part of the Time in Jazz festival (usually every 16 August) take place.

An alternative and fun way, especially for children, to visit this wetland area behind the wide beach of La Cinta is to take an excursion astride the lagoon and the sea.
